Getting here . . .
By Air:
We can arrange flights on your behalf through an established UK tour operator. Contact us with your requirements for airfares and details.
Nearest airports: Ajaccio (transfer time to Petreto Bicchisano: 55 mins) & Figari (90 mins)
Other airports: Calvi (4hrs) & Bastia (3Hrs 30)
We can give advice on flights and car hire.
(Corsica has a limited bus and train service so use of a car is generally considered essential)
Direct, 2-hour charter flights operate between the UK and Corsica every Sunday, from
mid - May until early October. (Gatwick, Heathrow, East Midlands, Bristol, Stansted, Manchester, Edinburgh).
The main companies that have seats on these chartered flights are:
- Simply Corsica: 0871 231 4050
- Corsican Affair: 020 7385 8438
- Corsican Places: 0845 330 2059
- Voyages Ilena: 0845 330 2048
- Simply Travel: 0845 811 6501
- VFB: 01452 716841
- Holiday Options: 0844 4770451
Some operators are primarily interested in selling seats with holidays so do not release 'seats only' until near the date of travel. Most offer car hire.
Year-round a two-stage journey via Paris, Nice, Marseilles or Toulon. Low cost operators such as Easyjet & Ryan Air fly from the UK to these destinations. For the second stage you could then either fly Air France (0033 820 820820, UK 0845 0845111), or take a ferry to Ajaccio or the port of Propriano (30 minute drive south of Petreto Bicchisano). British Airways and Air France are key operators and now have a collaborative low-cost flight service www.opodo.co.uk so it's worth comparing prices.
If you are concerned about the effects of flight emissions on the environment you can calculate and offset carbon emissions on several websites including: www.climatecare.org and www.carbonneutral.com
Overland / Sea:
A further alternative is to come overland. The train network is now fast and efficient, for example using Eurostar and then the TGV. Most people coming this way take the ferry from Marseilles, usually overnight with a cabin, and so the journey time is around 24 hours. There is also a coach service from London Victoria to Marseilles.
Some visitors choose to drive through France, bringing their cars on the ferries.
Ferries:
From Marseilles, Toulon or Nice to Ajaccio. Crossings take 10/12 hours - all day / overnight - or approximately 4 hours on the fast ferries. For more details contact the operators directly:
Getting around:
Corsica has a limited bus and train service so a car is generally considered essential for self-catering visitors. By special arrangement we can transfer independent travellers to and from Figari & Ajaccio airports.
Car hire:
holidayautos.com offer a good selection which can be booked on the internet, otherwise there is the usual range at Ajaccio and Figari airports; (Hertz, Avis, Europcar, etc.) and in Propriano.
Your local travel agent can often come up with a good deal, plus possible alternatives, so it's always worth asking there, too.
